Preliminary Exercise 10: Camera Movement Technique Organizer

Introduction

Lights, Camera, Action! Or not, yet? Before our group embarks on our film journey, we researched and learned about camera movement not only to inspire us, and spark innovative ideas for how we will film, but to also give us a clear understanding of how we can manipulate the camera’s feature to capture scenes a certain way. Camera movement are techniques used by filmmakers which moves, and positions the camera in ways that allow them to create their best product.

Those techniques are significant in planning a film because it can help the audience to better follow a movie plot, and to emphasize important scenes. A few examples of camera movement are tilting the camera, rotating on an axis, zooming in, and out on a subject. By doing this, according to, “https://onpointvideo.ca, The Importance of Camera Movement in Video Production, Camera movement, following the action, adds a sense of forward momentum, adds pace & energy, and allows the viewer to participate in the action.”

  • The objective of this assignment is to educate our group on an advantageous skillset that will benefit us while shooting our film, and enhancing mise en scène elements that are the focal point of each scene.

REFLECTION

Overall, our team’s main goal was to effectively achieve this task’s goal, which was to observe and annotate camera techniques during filmmaking, and to give us better vision of how to execute our film. Our group was introduced to camera movement through our media studies instructor, in which she explained in-depth insights, analyses, and tips we can use to create our film, and supported her teachings through a video linked below. Via that video, we noted key camera movement techniques seen in the slides above from a PowerPoint presentation we collaborated on.

For each three camera techniques defined Peyton P, Lexi M, Marley B, and I wrote notes that we took from the video, while inserting icons and arrows meant which are visual representations that demonstrated what we had noted in words for each techniques’ definition. In order to access this assignment, to do research and notetaking, and to create this PowerPoint presentation, we used our personal laptops, as well as ones provided by our school’s district. In retrospect, we learned terms that we may see again going forward in our filmmaking process, and we developed a more detailed vision of what we would like to see and present in our film.
